Event Overview
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the menopause is known as The Second Spring - a time of transformation and new beginnings.
This retreat day is designed to support you in becoming empowered on your journey, no matter where you are currently are, and to walk away with a deeper sense of understanding, reassurance and empowerment - with tools to support your day to day wellbeing.
What the day includes…
Yoga for the Menopause: ‘Hormone Harmony’ - Saira Burcham
Saira no longer views the menopause as a pause in our life, but rather more of a cosmic upgrade. A chance to peel away all the layers of coping, hiding, facilitating, accommodating - and a chance to really meet ourselves and get to know ourselves, perhaps for the first time in our lives.
It’s not easy to navigate all of the potential symptoms that menopause can greet us with - anger, frustration, heat, mood swings, erratic sleep (no sleep), brain fog - to name a few. It’s common to feel disconnected from and confused with our bodies at this time.
This specialised yoga sequence (accessible to all levels of abilities and experience) will meet us exactly where we are, almost acting as an emotional anchor for us.
It is a practice about bringing our hormones into balance so we can feel harmonious in our body and mind.
The focus will be on:
Calming an overactive nervous system, with cooling and grounding postures, to soothe our adrenal glands.
Release emotional and physical heat from our bodies, melting away gentle fatigue.
Gentle weight bearing postures for bone health and joint stability.
Leaning into restorative postures to aid stress release and to invite in a sense calm.
This practice will help us to:
Reclaim our vitality by easing stiffness and heaviness
Aid our over-thinking mind
Enhance our ability to properly rest and sleep
Gain some inner calm perhaps for the first time in a long time.
It will be an invitation to stop fighting the changes, but rather flow with the transition to something new and profound ahead.
A discussion with Dr Finnouala Barton - The Menopause Medic
This is a unique opportunity to have a face-to-face with The Menopause Medic herself, Dr Barton.
Whilst this session will allow for plenty of question and answer time, some of the key topics that Dr Barton will lead with are:
> Supplements - what the evidence says and where to focus your supplement spend.
> Testosterone replacement therapy - do we all need it and why we should not be afraid of it.
> HRT 101/Myth busting and troubleshooting - what we use, risks & benefits, who can/cannot use it, what to consider when its not working OR when HRT is not an option.
The Power of daily rhythms during the menopause transition - Esther Amira-Opie
Understanding what's changing is one thing. Knowing how to support your body every day is another.
As hormones change, so does our capacity to adapt to the demands of everyday life. In this guided conversation, Esther explores why our daily rhythms become more important than ever during the menopause transition, and how the signals we give our body each day shape our capacity to adapt, recover and remain well.
You'll leave with practical, evidence-informed ways to support your body through this transition, using simple daily rhythms that can help you bend, not break.
Why your lymphatic system matters in menopause - Megan Phizacklea
Menopause isn’t just about hormones - it’s about flow. And when your lymph flows, you feel lighter, clearer and more like yourself again.
Megan will guide you through the vital role of the lymphatic system, why it can slow during menopause, and the impact this may have on areas such as the skin, face, stomach, legs and overall energy levels.
She will also explore how supporting your lymphatic system can benefit your immune health, reduce water retention, aid natural detoxification, and help you feel lighter, less sluggish, improve sleep and feel more energised.
Most importantly, you’ll learn simple, effective ways to support your lymphatic system and enhance your wellbeing during this stage of life.
